One Room Challenge: Week 2

It’s week two of the One Room Challenge! I’m excited to share some of our initial plans, discussions and inspiration for Miranda and Taylor’s living room. 

THE LAYOUT

First thing’s first – layout. Right now, the room is split pretty evenly with the dining room on the left and the living room on the right of the entry. What I love about this house is how symmetrical everything is. I honestly don’t think we need to rearrange the usage of the space, as it makes sense to have the dining area where it is given the fact that the kitchen is right next to it.

Here’s some 3D renderings so you can see a clean slate of the space we’re working with.

For the living room, we have a few potential options to go with in terms of layout. We could rearrange it in a way so that there are two sofas facing each other, which would provide amble seating for when guests are over. 

Miranda and Taylor are leaning towards a sectional given the fact that the living room space is primarily used for relaxing and watching movies with friends. There is some slight concern that seating will still be an issue for when they have a larger group of friends over, so we may need to explore adding another chair into the mix. We’ll be taking a trip to a few furniture stores in the area (helllloooo Livingspaces & West Elm!) this week, so check back for next week’s post to see what we get ourselves into,

Speaking of Livingspaces, Miranda and I are both seriously crushing over this sectional. It’s just heavenly in every single way (hence the name, Haven). We are both in agreement on how perfect it is, but it will ultimately depend on budget and if Taylor approves. Although, once he tries it out, there won’t be much convincing to do. It seriously feels like you’re sitting on a cloud.

 

THE INSPIRATION

While a client questionnaire can provide a lot of valuable feedback and guide the initial discussion on a space, a Pinterest board serves as a much stronger sense of direction. It’s a way for clients to visualize their new space and articulate their wants and needs in a way that no questionnaire can. It’s the client’s opportunity to show you want inspires them and what lights them up.

Over the past week, we collaborated on a Pinterest board, which you can find here. Based on their pins, I’ve compiled a mood board for us to use as inspiration to fill the room.

Given the fact that they have the rich hardwood lining just about every edge of the house, we’ve decided to take a less “airy” approach and use slightly darker color palette with some bold jewel tones throughout the house. Vintage rugs, mid-century furniture pieces paired with gold accents and colors like mauve, peacock, grey and dusty rose ought to do the trick.
